Reasons
One reason why to read this book is because it is an action adventure book. An example that shows that it is an action adventure is that the setting is in the middle of the forest in Canada where Brian survives for 50 plus days. Another example is when the plane that Brian is in crashes because the pilot is dead from a heart attack and Brian therefore has to fly the plane for hours before it runs out of fuel and he has a plan on what to do “It all makes sense. Glide down, then slow the plane and hit” (Paulsen 22). This is a part of the book that it heart stopping and makes it seem that there is no way for Brian to survive this. One last example is throughout the whole story it tells how Brian survived for the 54 days he was there for and how he dealt with all of the death defying situations. So with all these examples it is clear to see that this book is an action adventure.
The second reason why to read this book is because it of the message that the book sends. The message that the book sends are the themes of the story. One of the themes is that to never give up and it is a good trait to have. You will see this trait that Brian has throughout the story. One time that Brian doesn’t give up is when he is in the plane that is soon to crash and he makes a chant “Easy to say, he thought, hard to do. Easy say, hard do. Easy say hard do. It became a chant that beat with the engine. Easy do, hard do.” (Paulsen 23) The other theme of the story is to expect the unexpected. Reading this book you will find out it is good to expect the unexpected and to be prepared for it. With the examples point out that the book sends a messages it is easy to say that people should read this book because it sends a message.
A third reason to read this book is that it a book that is filled with a lot of breath taking part in the book and you do not know what will happen next. Apart of this book that shows that it is breath taking is when the pilot of the plane Brian is on dies of a heart attack. This is something you think would never happen it is almost a one in a billion chance to happen to Brain. If that is not breath taking enough Brian has to land the plane after it runs out of gas. The good thing is that he lives but it was probably really death defying to do it. One last part is when Brian sees a bear in front of him with her cubs and does not move a muscle. Let’s face it, it was very breath taking for Brian to be in front of a bear and to just stand there knowing that the bear decides whether he lives or not. And for the reason of this book being a little bit of a thriller, it would be a good book for those who like to live life on a tight rope.
The last reason to read this book is that it is a good story for young adults. One reason why it is a good story for young adults is because Brian the main character is 13 and so they can relate to him in some ways. Since the main character is 13 it would be easy for young adults to relate to how he feels and what he is going through. Also the book itself seems like it is met for people 13 and up and so young adults would be able to understand everything and since it is meant for a reader like themselves they might find the book easily relatable and entertaining. And so with the evidence to support the reason it makes it a good book that is a must have for young adults.
