Summary
Brian is the main character in Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Brian’s parents are divorced so it is hard for him with his parents being split apart. He wishes that his parents could get back together because he liked it when his mom and dad were together and it wouldn’t be so difficult. Brian is on a plane going to where his father lives up north in Canada and is going there for the summer. To pass the time on the flight, the pilot showed Brian a few of the controls and what they did. On the way there, the pilot of the plane as a heart attack and dies. Brian takes action and tries to get the plane back on course but soon finds out that he is not on course. He makes a call for help, but then the signal dies and he is alone again. A few hours go by and soon the plane is out of gas. Brian lands it in a lake and is out in the middle of the forest. As Brian fights to survive, he uses his knowledge that he has collected over the years he has lived. He still has hope that the search teams will find him and that soon he will be home with his mom and dad together and be happy. He also fears that they might not ever find him that he will never see his parents again.
